- Instructors
Stephen and Judi Ware are the owners of Crossfire Kennels and are joining Paw Tracks LLC as Obedience and Conformation Instructors. Together they bring over fifty years of training and behavioral experience to our facility.
Judi’s interest in training began while in high school where she took an obedience class with her German Shepherd Dog from a German-born instructor, and she immediately fell in love with training dogs. Since that time, Judi has worked as a vet tech, worked with thoroughbred race horses and has taught obedience classes since 1979.
Judi has also trained pointing dogs for field competition and is an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. She has titled many dogs in many venues over the years.
Stephen’s interest in training dogs began while working as a rodeo “clown” where he quickly learned that a well-trained dog as “right hand” was something that no good rodeo clown should ever be without! Stephen also has a back-ground in training horses, with his interest being mainly with Paint Horses.  Stephen has trained dogs for herding competition and continues to train for the conformation ring and water and upland bird dogs. In addition, Stephen has a special interest in “behavior modification” and helps owners solve special problems with their dogs on a one on one basis. Stephen has obtained success in many venues titling both his own and client dogs.
Both Stephen and Judi believe that there are multiple approaches to training dogs and that each dog and handler team need an approach that works for them. Not all dogs and handlers can fit the same mold and it is important to be able to modify training techniques so that each team can achieve success. Stephen and Judi also breed Australian Cattle Dogs under the Crossfire name, German Shorthaired Pointers under the Von Treffend Shorthairs label and Labrador Retrievers under the FireHaven name.

Cassy Gotthardt was literally BORN into the world of dog training!  She could barely walk the first time she entered a dog show ring – the dog, Kelly, (Ch Von Treffend’s Summer Surprise, SH, CGC, TDI) showed her very well that day as she assisted the toddler, Cassy, around the show ring!  She helped to deliver her first “very own heart dog” at the age of seven and promptly claimed him at his birth!  Cassy trained “Digger” (AKC/UKC Ch Von Treffend’s Homeboy, CD, JH, CGD, TDI) to show in obedience competition and assisted with his field training as well.  Cassy and Digger were extremely active as they both grew up in 4-H, Therapy Dogs and AKC/UKC Competitions.  Since those days, Cassy has been active in training puppies and adult dogs for conformation, obedience, companion skills, field work and dock diving.  She has titled a large number of dogs in various venues, both her own dogs, those belonging to her parents, Stephen and Judi Ware, and for others.  Cassy has spent many years assisting her parents with classes and administering CGC testing; and has been an active partner in Crossfire Kennels/Von Treffend GSPs/Crossfire ACDs/FireHaven Labradors.
