Course Descriptions

Puppy Kindergarten: This course is designed for puppies four months old and younger at the start of the course.   Socialization and manners will be the focus of this class as well as learning the basic skills of walking under control, coming when called and basic manners.  In order to achieve AKC Puppy Stars, a puppy will be required to be enrolled in two four-week sessions and must attend a minimum of SIX classes.

Basic Obedience:  This course is for dogs and/or handlers who have had no introduction to obedience training.  Training teams will be taught the basics of training for control and manners to have a pleasant canine companion.  Exercises which will be taught will include:  walking on a lead, coming when called, sit and go to your bed.  Problem areas which owners may be encountering will also be handled.

Intermediate Obedience:   For dog/owner teams who have mastered the basic level exercises and now wish to move further.  AKC Novice Level Exercises will be covered and include:  Heel and Figure 8 on Lead, Heeling Off Lead, Stand for Examination, Formal Recall, Sit and Down with Stays.  Teams will also continue to work on off-lead informal recalls to continue to expand the reliability of the dog’s response to this command.

Advanced Obedience:   This course will take dog and handler teams BEYOND the Novice/Intermediate level.   Jumps, retrieving, distance handling along with other advanced skills will be covered.   This class is customized to the needs of each dog and handler team.

Conformation:   This course prepares you and your dog for competition in the world of dog shows.  Teams will focus on the judge’s examine, learning to “move” properly in the ring and how to best “present” your dog.  As dogs progress, ring “situations” may be introduced.

TBA

Intro/Basic Agility:  Teams will be introduced to the various pieces of equipment which must be executed during agility.  Basic concepts of competition will be covered, as well as safe and effective methods of teaching your dog the various obstacles.  This course can also be used to build confidence, gain control and exercise your dog!

Intermediate/Advanced Agility: is for dogs that have graduated from Basic Agility or have experience on agility equipment at full height. Dogs should be reliable off leash. The dogs and handlers will be introduced to more handling skills and begin to run longer sequences. We will also review how to prepare for competitions and practice walking courses.

Reducing Reactivity:  This class is for dogs who are hard to control in public due to their reactions to outside stimuli such as other dogs or people.  Class is limited to 5 students.  Dogs deemed aggressive rather than reactive will be removed from class.

Tricks:  AKC will start offering tricks titles in May!  This 2 hour workshop will review the requirements for the new titles plus there will be plenty of time to teach your dog some tricks!  Get in the Box, Doggie Push-ups, Paws Up and Balance Beam are some examples of the fun behaviors that are part of the new AKC program. Great fun for any dog!  Dogs should be able to work around other dogs, be at least 9 months old and have a few basic obedience skills (walk on a leash, sit, down).  Please bring lots of small soft treats and a leash.  Any kind of collar is acceptable but no harnesses.

LURE CHASING:  In lure chasing, dogs chase an artificial prey across a field following a pattern meant to simulate chasing live prey. The "prey" is usually a plastic bag or piece of artificial fur.  Lure Chasing is open to dogs of any breed and age. We do not recommend dogs be younger than 1 year of age because of the potential for injuring their growing joints. We offer this activity for the fun and exercise of all dogs.

LURE CHASING rentals are available with a minimum purchase of 18 runs.

DOGGY PLAY DATES are held often at Paw Tracks.  These events usually include Lure Chasing and Agility Walk/Run-Throughs.  Other activities such as Barn Hunts, Scent Games, Fetch, Paw Painting and Bob for Dog Treats may also be included.  Canine Good Citizen and Pet Therapy Tests are offered, periodically, by approved evaluators.
